A British woman has miraculously survived 10 hours in the Adriatic Sea after falling from a cruise ship.

Kay Longstaff, 46, plunged from the deck of the Norwegian Star as it sailed for Venice from Pula, Croatia.

She spent the night in the water, singing to herself to stay awake.

She was spotted by a passing ship and rescued.

Longstaff, from Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, had been on a 10-day Mediterranean cruise with her husband.

She is now recovering in hospital and said she is "very lucky" to be alive.

In a statement, the cruise company said: "We are relieved to confirm that our missing guest has been found and is now receiving medical attention."

It added that it is "conducting a thorough investigation into the incident."

Longstaff's family said they are "overwhelmed with relief" that she has been found.

"We want to thank everyone who was involved in the search and rescue operation," they said.

Longstaff's survival is a testament to the human spirit and the power of hope.

Her story is a reminder that even in the most difficult of circumstances, it is always possible to find a way to survive.
