Mike Pence: A Life in Politics
Early Years and Education
Michael Richard "Mike" Pence was born on June 7, 1959, in Columbus, Indiana. He was the first child of Edward Joseph Pence Jr. and Nancy Jane Pence. Pence graduated from Columbus North High School in 1977 and went on to attend Hanover College, where he majored in history and political science. He graduated from Hanover in 1981 and then studied law at Indiana University, graduating in 1986.
Political Career
Pence's political career began in 1988 when he was elected to the Indiana House of Representatives. He served in the House until 2000, when he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. Pence served in the House until 2013, when he was elected Governor of Indiana. He served as Governor until 2017, when he became Vice President of the United States under President Donald Trump.
Pence is a conservative Republican. He is a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and opposes abortion. Pence is also a supporter of free trade and limited government.
Personal Life
Pence has been married to Karen Batten since 1985. They have three children: Michael Jr., Charlotte, and Audrey. Pence is a practicing Catholic. He is also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Pence is an avid sports fan. He is a fan of the Indiana Pacers, Indianapolis Colts, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He is also a golfer and a runner.
